Visual Arts Foundation Course (BGK)
If you are passionate about art, eager to learn more, and aged between 16-25, we invite you to apply for admission to the BGK (Visual Arts Foundation Course) at Aarhus School of Visual Arts and Media.
BGK is a three-year course commencing in September. Classes are taught once or twice every week. The course consists of various modules including drawing, painting, sculpture, collage, photography, video, architecture and more. All classes are taught by a dedicated team of professional artists – some you will encounter multiple times throughout your time here, while guest lecturers lead other classes.
Many of our students attend classes whilst they are still in high school, college or university, or during a gap year from formal education.
Class is typically taught on Mondays and Wednesdays from 5.00-9.00 pm. These are supplemented by weekend workshops and events taking place throughout the year. When you accept a place on the course, you commit to attending classes weekly and to actively engage with the course activities and community. You are enthusiastic and driven by a desire to explore new disciplines and methods of artistic expression.
Our teaching incorporates classical and conceptual approaches to the visual arts. You will acquire foundational tools and methods across a diverse range of disciplines, while also exploring conceptual ideas, theories and methodologies.
If you aspire to apply for admission to an art academy, animation school, a design program or architecture school, the BGK can enhance your skills and artistic expression. Our team can support you through the application process and provide guidance on how to develop and refine your portfolio.
We do not expect BGK applicants to be fully formed artists already; the key is to be curious and eager to immerse yourself in art alongside fellow students at BGK.
As a student on the BGK course, you have the opportunity to:
- Work independently in studio and workshop spaces every day of the week outside teaching hours
- Participate in national BGK gatherings, mentorship programs, excursions, exhibitions, gallery tours and more
- Join the ‘Kritikklasse’, which provides a structured environment for discussing student work
- Attend our ‘torsdagstalks’
- Enroll in drawing and creative writing classes offered in other programs at the school at no further cost
- Become part of our collaborations with ARoS Museum of Art and with Aarhus Statsgymnasium, which offers a multidisciplinary visual arts and media studies program
